This one was taken at one of my regular visits to a woodland and I found this beetle next to the hoverfly in the previous shot. Whilst very common on the Mendips I normally associate them with the limestone grasslands, but here they seem just as numerous around the woodland edge.
This one appeared asleep slap bang in the middle of a leaf on a low bramble bush and fortunately it stayed that way whilst I set the gear up and took plenty of shots, that was until the aforementioned hoverfly tried to share the same leaf, then it slowly ambled off into the undergrowth.
Best viewed large.
Many thanks for the votes and comments on the previous upload of the Large White butterfly and especially to Andro (eyelevelphotographyuk), Lory (LoryC), Jenn (taggart) and Paul (livinglevels) for your User Awards, so very much appreciated.
