Bloody Point

By handlerstudio
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On the Chesapeake, the eastern end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge emanates from Kent Island. Sailing down from Rock Hall above the Bay Bridge, if we are sailing out into the Bay (the other option from Rock Hall, due South is go sail up the Chester River, and along the eastern side of Kent Island), we sail past Kent Island. The northern tip of the island is called Love Point, and about a mile offshore, is the Love Point Bell. The other end of the island0. is Bloody Point. I have no idea how the two points are related. This photo is the Bloody Point Bell....and it is much bigger than it looks. The bottom of the Bay being mostly mud....any point...on the Bay or on a river, almost any point, or even bulge tends to shoal....often quite far out. A lot of the markers on the Bay have platforms for osprey.....The return of ospreys and bald eagles is testimony to Rachel Carson and her book Silent Spring. They almost went extinct due to the spraying of DDT...made their shells soft, and often they did not survive. Ospreys are now everywhere on the Bay, and on the Eastern Shore well see Bald Eagles as well.

Splendid set Peter The osprey story is a wonderful example of natures ability to recover from mans disregard for nature in the past and unfortunately today as well, although we can hope that this will change and change soon. 😊
