Dungeness, June 2012. A length of rope designed to hold open the door of the fisherman's hut.
But I did appreciate the other suggestions
An excellent beautiful composition which is a combination of two other beautiful compos. The clarity is astounding, and other merits of it are: the blue flower with its matching hue and the little blue of the pane leaning on the other shed; the brown colour of the hauled boat matching the colours of the sheds forming another triangle for the eye; the knot's being foregrounded and shown in its context, the path leading the eye to the sea. I can speculate more, but I should finish saying, I really LOVE this brilliant photograph!
Superb work Bill.
The fuller picture is much better than the abstract. Well seen and composed Bill.
The abstract as part of the landscape, well pulled out of the shadows to delight the eye Bill. You do these images so well mere mortals would have passed by unseeing.
make do and mend, springs to mind.
looks like a secret message to avoid the Customs man!!
Good colour match on the rope and flowers.
I'd be tempted to crop off some of the darkness on the right, but I'm sure you left it there on purpose. It would make a square picture of two equal halves, but this would be balanced by the rope being far over on the right edge. Just my own preference.
An extremely interesting and rather cleverly crafted composition, attracting both the colour of the rope and the similar coloured flower. The use of the moderately sized aperture still keeps one eye trained on the wider image without distracting us from the main focal point.
I have tackled a square crop as per Chris' suggestion: it wouldn't quite fit without clipping one ragged end off the rope.
It's funny how some people can envisage squares, whereas I generally seem to see compositions in 4x3 or 5x4
For me that extra space to the right of the knot looks right - so its v1 that gets my vote
I've come back for another look and version one works really well for me.
ps, congrats on the award.
Very impressive image Bill, that blue has great impact.
I like V1 best.
Well done for the HC
Congrats on your award Bill. One can immediately see why it was given.
Brilliant observation and composition Bill - and many congrats on the HC!
The Blue Knot sounds like some ancient secret society Bill !!
I can imagine some strange goings on in Dungeness beach in the days of Yore.
And I have Googled this Yore guy,but can't find any references to him at all !!
A knotty image, for some naughty goings on in the past here I think !!
V1 takes my vote
A strong image that portrays Dungeness perfectly for me, congrat's Bill!
I like the way the rope echoes the colour of the plant. Super comp and definitely atmospheric
Many congrats on your HC and User Awards. Richly deserved, indeed. I really like this, especially, as has been mentioned, the sharing of colour by the rope and the flower. Well done.
I can't get over how blue it is plus the flower is the same blue almost, got to be a signal I feel sure regards Leon, great photo!.
Maybe knot quite as eye-catching as your previous upload, but nice to see the wider view, and works well
Two parts to the image and the blue is essential to link them together. A very well-seen and composed image, Bill.
All of the above and then some, a stunning image that almost makes me want to visit Dungeness (but not until next year if the weather gets warmer).
V2 does it for me, Bill. OK, I was wrong, not a sniff of a soap to be seen. Excellent landscape with a difference....a beach can be a landscape, can't it?
And a Blue Knot is better that a will not Bill.
2 wunderbare foto's
ich bevorzuge V1.....der Raum rechts gibt den Foto mehr Bedeutung!
Wie bei all deinen Foto's - sehr gut Gesehen und komponiert!
Ein schoenes Wochenende und vielen Dank fuer dein e-mail!
V1 Bill, well composed well worth the wait, now "blue is the colour football is the game" opps that's from the world cup well it is blue.....good work Bill well spotted.
Still a very blue Knot.
Two very good variants for comparison, Bill, v1 is superb, luv it, i reckon you took that rope with you as a prop, cant remember seeing any rope that new at dungeness?
Love the way the plant complements the shape and colour of the knot. I actually prefer V1, as I feel the tighter crop in V2 draws the eye too much to the knot and away from the other elements in the image.
My favourite colour Bill, V2 for the closer shot, Peter..
Congratulations on that HC award Bill
Hi Bill congrats on the HC for this!
and many thanks for your UA today, very chuffed indeed to be your best pic of the day!
Quite an achievement!
A great eye for a photo you have there Bill, I like this.
A fine composition Bill.

Congratulations on a well deserved HC award Bill, the composition is excellent.
A very intriguing image, Bill! Well, spotted and captured!
Wow -- that blue really pops off the screen and I like your comp. -- giving us a context at the shore.
