Blue Lagoon

By Minty805
Only when the tide is right can you walk from Seagrove Bay, Seaview, round the headland into Priory Bay. But when the tide is out, it opens up one of the most beautiful places on the Isle of Wight, where the sea recedes to leave still inlets, with the spit of land on the far headland pointing out to St Helens Fort. This is one of the Solent structures built in the late 1800s in response to a French invasion scare. Now, in happier years at least, it sees the annual fort walk, when large crowds gather to walk or wade out to the fort and back in an unofficial but much anticipated event.
I took this recently on our daily exercise, and have been unsure the best way to treat it. The version is how I was going to present it, but I felt the colours were too strong and unnatural, so I reined it back a bit. I almost ditched the colour altogether, and I will put the b&w up as a version, but felt the lead still was the best balance.
I'd be very interested to hear what anyone thinks and which you prefer. Any other suggestions and constructive criticisms are always welcome.
Thanks for looking. Allan

V1 for but I find the blue of the sky too strong and the three bands of sky colour strange. I would desaturate and lighten the sky a touch and bring up the colours of the foreground beach sea and trees - see mod

V1 for me. It looks as though you might have put too much vignette which makes the sky to dark

Not actually visited this area of the Isle of Wight, but it looks very lovely and exotic - could be in the Caribbean! 😃 Have to go for the lead, think the colours do look a little too strong in V1. Works well in mono too, I think 👍
Take care, stay well, and have a good weekend,
Trev 😀

V1, I prefer with its more saturated colours. The composition is good with fort given balance to the left-hand side of the image. On first viewing I thought I was viewing a tropical island like you see in the glossy travel brochures!

It does look rather exotic Allan, lovely colours but my preference has to be V2.

I would never have thought this was the IOW...

Processing like this is very much a case of individual taste, and a bit of a Marmite treatment. I think more subtle effect would perhaps be worth considering?

Thanks for your mod, James, and I agree about the banding - poorly processed, I'm afraid. Still, it's all a learning curve.

Thanks for the critique, Ian. As for tropical island, some would say it's not far off, especially on the south side - what they can grow at Ventnor is quite surprising.

Know it well Allan. We have walked both ways to get here, and through the woods when the tide is up but it is so worth it!
I have loads of images of this beach, but I never feel the photos look as good as it does to the eyes in real life.
