The composition here is basically fine. The main problem is the exposure and the best approach here would be to take several bracketed exposures using a tripod and combining into an HDR image. I have produced a mod with several adjustments to try and improve the image.

I get the feeling that there's a pretty good shot in there trying to get out.
The walls etc. that you've used to frame the shot are too much for me.
The subject, presumably the building across the road, looks as if it could be interesting and I can't help thinking that a straightforward image taken from outside would work better.
Also, as Frank has said the exposure's not right, which is fairly easily sorted out in software and the colours are quite saturated. That's a matter of opinion, I guess but personally, I'd turn them down a bit.
Anyway, I've uploaded a mod. in which I've cropped a bit from the LHS, adjusted the exposure, (a simple levels adjustment) and I've slightly desaturated the rest.
I think that the distortion will have been caused by your shooting a narrow gap at the widest angled end of your lens and I don't think that there's a lot you can do about it without causing distortion to the, so-far, undistorted parts.
Sorry if that all sounds a bit negative.

Edit; Had you considered this as a portrait? Please see mod.
