Bolton Coronavirus testing

By philtaylorphoto
Part of the week long coverage of the spike in Coronavirus cases in Bolton, Lancashire.

It is now believed that the hundreds of cases are linked to one person who returned ill from Spain, and went on a pub crawl, then held a house party. Fined ,000.

You must remember 'the ancient, inalienable right of free-born people of the United Kingdom to go to the pub' (Boris Johnson, 20 March 2020). We are not like those benighted, enslaved foreigners who can only have a drink or two with a meal. We have the right to get paralytic whenever and with whomsoever we want. That's why we voted Brexit. Or maybe it wasn't, but that doesn't matter.

We have had very mixed messaging in the last week. Don:t mix with other families/households, but going to a pub or restaurant is OK. It has seemed so contrary that the 'right to have a pint' was upheld, but not family life. Thankfully that's been stopped.

I feel somewhat hypocritical moaning about a lack of precautions whilst heading to the danger zone to capture images.

I reckon I will be looking for resales of the empty shelves photos soon.

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint".
(Hesiod, 8th century BC)

'Mixed messages' has been the story of the last six months, and not just locally. There has been a desperate desire to protect the hospitality industry (and understandable, given the amount it contributes to the economy). But while you can generally rely on coffee shops to control distancing between tables, the government has consistently ignored the fact that alcohol breaks down inhibitions - and that is precisely why people go to pubs.
And then instructions for families where one member has symptoms blithely assume that there will be enough rooms in the home for everyone to self-isolate. Because very few government ministers live in one-bedroom flats...
And as for horse-racing returning to normal, part of the original problem was the Cheltenham Gold Cup going ahead in March on the eve of lockdown.
Have you got two hours free for me to continue... ?

There's an interesting connection between Baroness Dido Harding, The Jockey Club, Cheltenham Gold Cup, political donations, Talk Talk, Track and Trace, and the successor to PHE.

Candid photo? That's probably near a 300mm on crop sensor. There was a bloke coughing horribly in the walk in queue.
