25 September 2020. Bolton Town Centre, Lancashire. For several weeks during the Coronavirus pandemic the Greater Manchester town has been under tigter restrictions than neighbouring towns with bars closed, and a 10PM curfew on takeaways. The centre is known for its bustling nightlife, as it's a university town during Freshers week, but few people were to be seen on a Friday night. The local council have asked for the bar restrictions to be eased to save the night time economy despite the borough having held the record for most infections in the UK for several weeks, currently at 240 per 100,000.. THE TOWN HALL SQUARE/VICTORIA SQUARE. RECORDED WARNING MESSAGES BOOMED OUT FROM LOUDSPEAKERS
Since writing the caption for the unpublished pic (overshadowed by locking Manchester students in their halls), Bolton has dropped to 4th in the league table having been leapfrogged by Burnley at 255. In an hour in town I think I saw 20 people. Nope, the loudspeakers didn't play Underneath The Spreading Chestnut Tree before announcements, but coming soon...
(No, I'm not an anti mask/vax nutcase, unlike hi vis bloke at a test centre who told me that 'the media are making it all up')
That's a 1/5 hand held by the way!
