Bonsai - Norfolk Style

By AlexandraSD
I love small trees, massive bonsai hobbyist and plant hoarder.

The idea for these images came from my good friend and fellow photographer Sean Allen, who thought it would be a good idea for other photographers to step out of their comfort zone for a self portrait challenge, well that is not really me, as i do enough self portraits, so i wanted to be slightly different, and that night i took a few images, though i may do some more yet as i have other trees which would look awesome in a portrait.

This tree is a hedge, chinese privet, Ligustrum Vulgare, but basically usually used as a hedge, there are millions of these trees in small pots now. This was bought from Morrisons a month back, it looked very different back then, in a plastic nursery pot, barely any roots, i didnt think the tree would make it, but it has outgrown the other 2 trees which i bought from that shop at that time. I transferred her to this rather oversized and bulky looking trough, and decided a windswept form would really suit this tree, so i positioned the young growth to flow in a certain direction using guide wires so as not to cause ugly wire marks typically found on branches previously wired the traditional way.

To finish the landscaping, i needed a stolen car, and i found this vintage corgi Vauxhall Nova on ebay, one of these was my first car, a nova spin, my bestie also owned a nova in the mid 90s, so these cars are quite dear to me, but this one will soon get burnt out, to complete the look i am aiming for.

The thing is, i live in Norfolk, and while i love japanese culture and traditions, i cannot relate to them, but i can relate to my immediate environment, which is farmland, apple orchards and wide open fields with the odd tree here and there, and the occasional burnt out stolen motor. nearby.

This tree has a lot of growing to do yet, this is just the beginning but ii has more of a fighting chance now!
