Bordeaux Quay, Bristol

By Glostopcat
A view of the Bordeaux Quay at Bristol taken a week last Friday afternoon when I was visiting the city for work. This image shows some of the harbourside bars and restaurants across the water, the Colston Tower, which is the tower block on the RHS and some of the narrowboats that are moored here. The bridge in the picture is Pero's Bridge, named after a slave who was brought to Bristol from Nevis Island in the 17th Century. The bridge is famous for the ear trumpets which are horn shaped counterweights, they were designed by Irish artist Ellis O'Connell

What are the 'trumpet-like thingies', Ed? A lovely collection of houseboats there, too, and some good reflections. Carol

Fascinating-- this harbor has some unusual features--- the things already mentioned, and those fancy boats that remind me of gypsy boats!

And to think I use to go swimming in the docks not far from this location when I was a kid, I'm surprised I'm not dead from Weils disease.......Oh the memories you've jogged for me tonight! Wink

Lovely shot Ed, and my commendations to the artist/architect/engineer (Mr. O'Connell must be more than just an artist!) for making such a wonderful attraction out of a necessity, brilliant! The long boats are a togs dream Wink

what a colourful, interesting lively picture.
I'm intrigued by the curious shape of the boats, are they meant for very narrow channels?
