Bouillon Chartier Montparnass

By bliba
You don't become a myth by chance, any more than you become a myth by living off a reputation. Chartier is over 120 years old and doing well. In the hearts of native Parisians as well as in the memories of tourists from all over the world, this may explain it

In 1896, the Chartier broth was born out of a simple idea: to offer a meal worthy of the name at a modest price, to respect the clientele in order to win their loyalty. Fifty million meals and only four owners later, the recipe is still as good as ever?

Over the decades and anecdotes, the place has vibrated to the rhythm of all those, illustrious or anonymous, who have loved it as a couple, with family or friends. In doing so, he has acquired more than a unique personality: a soul. Enter the immense and legendary classified room. Sit quietly at your table, take a look at the famous drawer cabinets where the regulars used to collect their towels, at the painting by the painter Germont, who created this work in 1929 to pay off his debt

Watch the incessant ballet of the waiters in black vests and white aprons, with unparalleled efficiency... And open your taste buds wide! On the plates, tradition and diversity are available at unbeatable prices. Leeks with vinaigrette, egg mayonnaise, vegetable soup or snails as an appetizer; meat, fish or scoundrel dishes well simmered for the rest: the menu is vast, the flavours authentic and each dish costs around 10 .

Feast your eyes with confidence, suppliers are reliable and consistent. Indulge yourself with the famous homemade whipped cream cup, you won't find it anywhere else. In fact, whatever you're looking for at Chartier, you're unlikely to find it anywhere else..

Your descriptions of eating and drinking places show a love of such places, and what happens there. I wish I could visit all of them with you, one day!

The ambience recalls my favourite restaurant in Paris, Le Procope in the 6th arrondissement, which is admittedly a little older (founded 1686).
I love the style and the atmosphere; this applies to your photos also! And I have to agree with John D . . .

One day, one day . . .

A great write-up, Oliver, and especially when on food, which has my taste buds working on overtime! You have included some lovely images of the place, which would appear to be well patronized. The decor could be back in the time of Toulouse Lautrec, and the heyday of the Moulin Rouge.

Looks and sounds the place to be - love the lead, it looks so beautiful and ornate 👍 I like how you've captured the movement of the waiters rushing about 😃
