Continuing with my sculptures theme.
I have just spent a frustrating afternoon trying to find some information about this charming little sculpture of a naked kneeling boy clutching two fish whose mouths form the fountain, found in Alhama De Murcia, Spain.
It is in the Garden of the Martyrs of Alhama de Murcia. This garden was formerly the original watercourse, and "la rambla de la Cruz" was built in its present form during the 1950ís. The columns give it a classical appearance and it is a popular site for locals to relax and take shade in the heat of the summer. The figure on the fountain is a reproduction of the original which disappeared mysteriously in the 1970ís and was made from old photos found in the municipal archive, and was inaugurated in 2009, restoring the gardens completely to their former splendour.
V1 is a closeup of the sculpture, V2 a slightly wider view, and V3 a wider view still, showing the columns and promenade.
