Brahminy kites (Haliastur indus)

By Karuma1970

The backwaters of Kerala are quite a well known attraction these days: not really too much off the beaten track. They are however well worth it for the birdlife and the people going about their lives by the waterside.

Brahminy kites are fairly common, hunting in the damp lands to the side of the waterways and in the water itself along with other birds.

I've seen so many of these in Goa, but usually too high to photograph well. Wonderful image.

Looking at the land I think it was a happy hunting ground for them.

Anyone who looked at my pictures yesterday will be sad to learn that the newcomer hasn't survived. Back down to six cygnets I'm afraid.

Super shots of the birds but boy do they stand out against that gorgeous backdrop.

(I was going to say jokingly, I don't see the kite strings but then I looked at the version.)

I think it's a snake but it's not clear is it?

I figured it as something it snapped up and a snake is likely.
