Fantastic macro!

Did you use extra close up filters or extension tubes?

What a macro - it is a bit close I think, looks a bit abstract, but very sharp and detailed.

Jeez, talk about extreme... Excellent detail. I'm a bit ignorant about lenses, sigma 180mm, is that a fixed length or zoom? Or is it a special macro? Paul

Thank you all for your comments! I can totally understand the "Yuck" factor here!

... I don't think they make Ladyshaves this small though, so she will just have to keep her stubble!

Really I just took this shot to see if I could get more detail than my previous attempts at getting this close

To answer your questions regarding the technique, it is all a matter of getting the dragonfly accustomed to having a relatively huge lens just a few centimeters from it's head. Then a good rock steady position and the 180mm +35mm extension does the real work for you!

Paul the 180mm is a fixed lens designed for macro use, although can produce excellent results in portraiture and more general usage.

All your comments are greatly appreciated!

Spent so much time looking at this last week, I totally forgot to click and comment.
Just showing it to some friends of mine when I realized I hadn't.

I can't imagine there is a photographer in the world that wouldn't be jealous of this shot. Totally amazing!
