Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed.

By Tooma
I was standing in the back garden recently, camera in hand, watching the birds coming and going at the feeding chair, when two young squirrels appeared from the rear left, one chasing hard after the other, siblings I think. They dropped down from the trees, onto the fence, moving rapidly, down the fence into the garden, the leader, the chasee, shot past my feet, almost making contact, but the chaser stopped short, reversed slowly while looking right at me, then jumped up onto the wall, where he glared at me in a sort of baleful embarrassed way - then I shot him - three times - before he was up and away, over the fence. They can be funny to watch.

V1 and V2 are the other two pics.

I had two get into the loft a few years ago, Jenn, so readily agree with you. They seem to have a thing for chewing cables. One found its own way out, and I trapped the other one. He was not chuffed when I caught him, had a right hissy fit when I lifted the cage and carried him outside, lol.

Good to see he survived a triple 'shooting', Tom!! SmileSmileSmile
Three excellent, well detailed captures of little fella.
I wonder if he's got his eyes on your bird feeders!!

When we lived in Perthshire we used to have red squirrels hanging on the bird nut feeder having a meal. A delight to watch.

"Varmint" - such a great word - not heard nearly enough. It conjures up memories of drygulching bad-ass bandits after ill deserved gain, and honest Sheriffs on the chase to catch those varmints, then have their well trained horses called, Trigger, and Silver, back kick them into handily placed horse troughs, then haul their sad asses into the town jail. Oh yea, pardner. I can see it all in that one word.
Big John of the Wayne went after a few o' them varmints too, and he, like the Mounties of old, always got his man, that darn varmint.
Great word, lol.
