Brutus and Lola

By tonyguitar
Sea lions are well fed on Herring so their mood is mellow. For the first time there were a few lions on our main dock. Normally they are out 100 yard on the steel floats. A fine opportunity for ' portraits '.

We could walk to within 30 feet, so close enough to pick out personalities. There was a little fight when a big guy climbed aboard the wharf. They weigh in at close to a ton, so a surprise for the nerves when the dock began heaving a little.

A very enjoyable opportunity.

A great ""talking"" capture Tony . It seems that are really talking and that makes the opportunity you took very rare .

Great work .

Great fun capture Tony. It's strange I haven't seen any seals at French Creek while the herring are here. I used to see lots of them in Q.Bay. They be out front of our house all around the herring boats. Maybe that's still where they all are and up your way too.

There are two sea lion booms and also the floats are filled with sea lions so that may be why they got the nerve to climb on the left side dock at Fanny Bay.
Only about eight or nine Sea Lions.
There have been no seals in the Courtenay River for weeks. I have seen only one seal near the bird lookout on Dyke Road three days ago.
Is it this unusual cold spell? TG

Great looking shot of this pair Tony, the one on the left looks a bit aloof.

Yes Debs. Main topic in front in focus and BG soft, just as the naked eye works. Otherwise f/16 or pinhole would be THE rule. Helps the subject to ' pop '. TG
