BUCKEYE BUTTERFLY (Junonia coenia) . . Taken in open field unfortunately in bright sunshine. Hand held and some extensive cropping. Not the best, not as good as I would have liked but somewhat pleasing all the same.
Belongs to a large subfamily of butterflies known as varied brushfoots. They overwinter as adults. Most die in the cold Northern winter tempteratures.
Although they migrate North in the spring most do not migrate Southward in the fall, they are replaced the next year by new migrants.
V1 is my favorate
V2 shows the wings outstretched.
V3 is "peek-a-boo"
