Bullet Train

By mac
Here is a puzzler for all you train spotters. Photographed in the Waverley station, Edinburgh last week. I walked the length of the train and not a single logo or marking could be found except numbers at the bottom of the bodywork and it was this colour of grey on all the coaches It looks a bit like the Japanese Bullet Train?
The colours in the widows are reflections from advertising notices on the platform. Any ideas?

It doesn't quite have the charm of the many steam engines we see on this site, but it does have presence and a lot of panache. Wonderful shot. As for your thought on Japanese Bullet Trains . . . I have doubts. Those trains normally run on special tracks rather than the same lines as the slower local services. I read somewhere that UK trains run on "normal" tracks. This may be home grown.

It's one of the new Azuma trains introduced on the LNER a couple of months ago. I reckon it looks smarter in grey than in the advertised new livery!

Was it parked at platform 9, perchance?

Certainly looks a little out of place in a UK station. Hopefully a sign of improvement.

Excellent capture Ian no doubt. Reminds me many years ago I was waiting for a train at Crewe station for London when, to my surprise, a Eurostar train came through the station without stopping, obviously on a trial run before it went into service.

On reflection that is possibly the explanation here. As there was no livery on the train and coaches, it could be it was on a trial run before being taken over by LNER who runs the east coast service to London and then fitted with company logo's .

A Stealth Train...

Bill's down to earth explanation spoils that illusion.
Anoraks anyone? Wink
