As an addition, the quality available from theXE1 astounds me. I actually think it is bettef than my 7D in many respects. The libraries appear very happy with the quality. I am finding myself automatically using it for all general photography.

I agree with you with these points... the system camera works well generally, Canon M's AF was very slow at low light macro, or even couldn't focus..the lens is a bit rubbish with landscape..but I can't see how it can be better than 7D, do you want to swap ?
The 7D's lens could be more expensive than the XE1...
Seems to be the basic image quality, Jas. The results, at 100% are much smoother than the 7D and are going to the libraries without rejection so far. May be the lack of a low pass filter, but also easier to carry and lihtweight. I am extremely pleased with it and use it now as my main day to day camera.
