By Candlelight

By chase
Been experimenting with candlelight as the single light source in an image.
Not quite where I wanted to be but this is probably one of my best efforts to date.
I do like the gentle throw of light a candle brings to an image and the reflections.
Glass is challenging !! Wink

So, lit by the candle light you see against a dark bg.
A 3 frame HDR image, each 1 stop apart combined in Lightroom, finished in Photoshop.
I couldn't resist my favourite Moth Wink

Thanks for dropping by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

A very good effort, in my opinion, Janet! 👍 I like how the candlelight's catching all the objects in the scene...and the little moth about to dive into the glass of red wine...😃 Love the candle holder 🕯

Now this is the sort of setup where the old books are really suited.

Wonderful to ave UAs from Somnath and Trev, many thanks guys Smile

The 2 larger books are well old, one dated 1898 and the other 1843. The red one is Aristotles Works but is undated Sad
You are right Keith, thank you.

Now this definitely WOWs me Janet, I just love the candlelight and the beautiful warm glow it has given to your image. You were right to add the moth......well they are attracted to the light!!!

When the power goes out and all you have is a candle. Lovely warm light and always like your signature bugs. They make it special and we search for them. Makes us really see.

I do like this set-up...a winter night out, so a cosy drink and a good read by an unseen fire...all the elements are right - the book and glasses, the carafe and wine glass, the candle to read by. The only odd-man-out is the cone. I don't think it is needed and it doesn't fit in with the other excellent 'ingredients'

Hmm, I thought the candelabra was in the post Wink Wink

The cone? a sign of Winter times Malc, doesn't everyone have one Wink

Very nice. I would reduce or remove the light reflections in the specs lenses, and perhaps have the light fall off a bit more to make it look like the candle is the only light source, - quick mod done.

Lovely candle-lit still-life Janet. The old books have come into their own here and the glassware fits the period look nicely. Like Malc I feel the pine cone doesn't fit in. Perhaps swap round the glasses and the cone, which would then provide a 'stop' at the left edge of the arrangement as well as being less visible, and make the glasses a more integral part of the composition.
But I do love the general ambience you have created.

Thanks for the mod Willie, you have gone even darker than I dare !
The slight reflection in the specs is my room door and the view through it, probably should have shut it tbh, if you look really, really hard there is a selfie somewhere in there too Wink

I really love this, candle light is soooo hard to photograph well, this captures the atmosphere beautifully.
As for the moth, I'm glad it is digital, a real one would have headed straight for the flame with sad results.
My award.
