By The Sea

By RachelMB
Taken in Fowey, Cornwall in June this year. It was my first time camping (we had free passes for Eden so we camped in Fowey for one night) and we had a great time! Grin

This was taken at St Catherine's. We were watching the boats and butterflies kept landing in front of us. Smile

I wasn't sure about whether the leaves at the bottom of the shot were 'distracting', so I've cloned them out for V1. Smile

IMO you were right to clone them out - far less distracting.

Hi, Rachel, isn't it great to see so many butterflies about? I like the way you have the flower (valerium?) and butterfly against the blue water, which gives good texture to the background. White butterflies are the most difficult to get right, achieving detail without blowing the whites. I suppose you could select the wings and darken them, adding a bit of contrast to bring out the detail, but I tried another method. Firstly, I rotated the image clockwise, just to make it a more interesting angle, then cropped, adjusted highlights/shadows, then used the burn tool and sharpening brush on just the butterfy, finishing with a slight vignette.

A gorgeous image, I love the colours. I think I would crop the image, both left and right (but that is just a personal thing!) Smile

Thanks for the clicks and comments Smile

I think the crops both look good, although I prefer the rectangular one to the square. The butterfly and flower have more 'punch' in the first mod, though. Thanks for the two mods! Smile

Great shot, must have been very calm for the butterfly to be on the sea edge, prefer the cloned version
