Cafť break

By jacomes
Not so much a shadow but people enjoying a coffee in the shade of a caf√ƒ¬©'s parasols. Life slowly returning to normal here in Portugal. A brighter colour version at V1.
13:36 I've uploaded V2 with the the faces brightened to show detail but stay natural looking, but still prefer my original B&W.

Thanks for your interest votes and comments on Muddy tracks yesterday, much appreciated.

A great street scene image, which lends itself to a mono conversion, but I would suggest that much of the shadow detail has been lost compared with the colour version. Examples are the child and the man at the near table. Fix this and you will have a more balanced picture. I'm not sure what's happened to the sky top left?

Thanks for your thoughts on this, Nick
I wanted a more sombre mono image, and lifted the shadow on the boy as much as I could without it looking overdone. Top left corner is not sky, but the rather grubby white wall of a building!

Shade is nothing more than a large area of shadow, so well within the bounds for Saturday Shadows, James.
Well done for not attempting to lift the shadow on the boy any more than you did - the temptation is there, I know!WinkWink

Thanks James. I did wonder if that was a building.

both work very well, James, but i think Nick made a valid point about some loss of vivid detail vs the colour original... so it has to be colour for me..

Oh heck, you are all speaking of shadows, there are shadows but just look at the faces! Man with patch on eye far left and wagging his finger in explanation. Shadow boy with mobile and Dad either reading or having a 'moment'. Still got all the detail in the B/W which lifts the image to an excellent street candid rather than a good one. All in the eye of the beholder James! Love it.

I like how the chap over to the right facing his missus in the white patterned dress is covering his face, it's like he's thinking "Oh no, that bloke's trying to photograph me again!" 😁
A fine street candid, James, and I'm torn between the two. I think it works well in mono, but as mentioned above, it does lose detail especially in the faces, compared to colour 😃

It's a street scene. It captures a moment in time and full of natural interest. For me there is so much interest in the image to get too hung up about shadow quality.
It's a good street photo James.
No 30 for you too James
