Calving Glacier and Kittywakes

By rontear
This was an awesome sight, sitting in an inflatable zodiac inside a glacial lagoon and then ... a calving of immense proportions !! The several thousand Kittywakes that were feeding in the meltwater river exploded into the air. We were placed infront of the glacier but far enough to only recieve a bow wave after this huge amount fell in !!! An event of a lifetime !

An amazing experience. Well timed image.
Superb, fantastic, unbelievably imaense, a sight of a lifetime Ron, wow factor times 10. Must have been quite scary as all that ice collapsed into the water. You just must get this one printed for the wall. Excellent action with all the birds flying off in panic.

That is sooo spectacular, and well done for having the presence of mind to press the button and not just sit there in awe (as I would have done!).
Brilliant!!

Truly remarkable, Ron. What a rare moment to capture. The collapse itself would have been something special, but the addition of the fleeing birds creates extra drama in a spectacular scene.

This is an amazing shot Ron! A collapsing Glacier, all those Kittywakes! and you (and Maggie?) in a little boat? Pretty dangerous I would have said!
Anyway, Definitely worth my 'Photo of the Week' award!
Well done!
Tony
PS you must tell me about your time working at the Beeb sometime! I used to love the 'Fluff' Freeman rock show every saturday afternoon!
