Camellia (2477)

By paulknight
When I bought my present home 19 years ago, there were more Camellias than native trees and plants. Typical of middle class suburbs of New Zealand. (Similarly, there were lots of roses.) However, I find camellias to be boring as well as being more like an introduced pest than something to be preserved. I embarked on a campaign to remove and replace in favour native trees and birds. However, one small camellia seemed different and I couldn't quite carry out its assassination. The shape of the exception was less boring than is typical. The flowers were very compact, richly coloured and importantly, didn't wither and fall to the ground within a couple of days, as they do. So it survived my obliteration campaign. I remain happy, even if slightly guilty that what remains of my heart managed to override principle. I recently took some photos of the flowers I hope you like what you see. Obviously, I have used Photoshop to clear the surrounding clutter in order to make more of the flower.
