And I'm pretty sure this is demonstrating exactly how little depth of field the lens has wide open...

Yes, I like shooting at big apertures, in this case 50mm at f 1.4. I like the almost 3D effect it ca produce. Post processing is in Lightroom

Yes - I haven't often used very wide apertures for landscapes, though often for portraits and nudes.

I was stunned, recently, by the effect of using a 1937 Summar at f/2 on a Sony Alpha 7, and it brought hte phrase 'almost 3D' to life! Really heavy vignetting, too, adding to the effect - and massive falloff away from the centre - something Leitz have fixed these days!

The lens I am using is a 7Artisans 50mm f1.1 lens. Its a bit soft at 1.1 but at 1.4 it sharpens up. I just like the effect this lens gives. I also prefer primes to zooms.

Absolutely with you on the zoom issue! I have a couple, but don't use them often, and almost never if i have a prime that could do the job!
