Taken at cardboard boat race in the harbour at the Barbican, Plymouth. The race was organised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers who taught the children the basic construction skills, using just cardboard and duck tape. They raced, two at a time over a distance of about 500 metres (must have seemed like the Atlantic) and the age range from 6 to 12. There were about 50 craft taking part and, surprisingly, most completed the distance. A learning experience, exercise and great fun for all taking part.
PS: No child drowned or injured at this event - lifejackets provided and rescue boat on hand!!!
