Carved Circle

By woolybill1
For our U3A summer challenge topic Circles, Arcs and Spirals. There are numerous examples of bowls carved into rocks to be found on the Derbyshire gritstone edges, meant to collect rainwater for grazing sheep.

Thanks for all votes, comments and awards yesterday. All were and are much appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

Didn’t know there were modern ones, have seen a few Neolithic ‘cup-and-ring’ marks on the moors. Fine mono here.

Indeed we did. The car park at the start of the path is free, too, and the former honesty-box has vanished.

Never seen these circular bowls, how considerate of people to creat these for the sheep 😃 A fine shot, Bill 👍

That is interesting, what their purpose is, no doubt welcome by sheep! Makes for an interesting foreground to go with the view. Is the stone stack, a marker for the sheep finding it!! Drink here!!!

What a fascinating fact. Imagine the labor it took to grind out these perfect bowls.

How very disappointing, "to collect rainwater for grazing sheep". Nothing to do with aliens or UFO landings then Sad
All those sad and lonely conspiracy theorists. Sitting up there all night long with their 'Welcome to Earth' banners. What
will they do when they find out? SmileSmile..Every days a school day Bill.
Nice image as well.
Very interesting photo and explanation that without would raise UFO speculation as a flying saucer landing zone.
