Caryatids 1

By mrswoolybill
They are supposed to represent physical strength. But I see the sadness of spending eternity supporting man's architectural fantasies.
This is another detail from the fireplace at Seaton Delaval Hall, see yesterday's upload for the story.
I should have added in my description that the National Trust acquired the property a few years ago and has started a massive conservation project. The main Hall is too badly damaged to be brought back into habitable condition, but the West Wing of the building, which was not damaged in the fire, is being restored and will be open to the public in a few years time.
Thank for looking,
Moira

He doesn't look happy. Perhaps he is worried about what the National Trust might do.

Having spent years with his backside to an open fire ( one of my favourite positions in life) you would have thought he would have been a much happier bunny than he looks. Smile

A telamon with a broken nose, understandably looking a bit miffed.

The angle this is taken from makes it look as if his mouth is drooping on his left side and the left side of his face appears to have slipped, symptoms of having suffered a stroke.

'Oh how weary, stale flat and unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this world .....' Unhappiness is having a cigar called Hamlet - and no lighter. This poor old lad needs cheering up - anyone seen Yorick?

He has the same facial expression as I had when I looked out the window this morning at the cold, wet & miserable weather... 😬
A well-framed shot though, Moira, very nicely lit 😀
