Caryatids 2

By mrswoolybill
The other side of the fireplace at Seaton Delaval Hall. Caryatids are supposed to represent physical strength. But I see the sadness of spending eternity supporting man's architectural fantasies.
Thank for looking,
Moira

Very nice, Moira. I also see the sadness.

A handy armpit for keeping the matches in, Moira.

Very well cropped to give a very pleasing composition.

It's actually a different figure (this one has kept a bit more of his nose... ), there are two supporting the two ends of the mantlepiece.
Thanks folks, and Happy Bank Holiday!

Interesting in that it shows he cannot be a solid statue but hollow. Moulded? Nice side lighting bringing out all the details and textures.

As far as I could tell, plaster was modelled over a mesh frame. There was a fair amount of cheating here - there are 'classical statues' on the walls above, where fabric was soaked in liquid plaster and then draped over body casts...

Seems odd he looks to be hollow! But a very well composed and framed capture, Moira, nice tones and textures too 👍

He's clearly plastered ......... (oh that it should come to this BlushBlushBlush) ........... this kind of thing is best left to Barry Cryer.

A superb image very nicely framed. SmileSmileSmile

These really lend themselves to your processing techniques, or is it the other way round, either way another winner.

Matt, I choose my subjects carefully... Wink
What gets me about Caryatids itís the women who end up holding things up and I suppose over the hundreds of years since we are still doing it.

Superb image though

Please read it as excellent...What i love in this image is the composition, the broken part of the hand attracts the eye and then it is the shape and the face in both way, the eye is not guided to any particular direction and it is dynamic, like the shape of 'V'...You have extracted the maximum from this simple scene, a masterpiece, and full credit to you...
