Castlerigg

By C_Daniels
After a mile long venture down a sign posted footpath and a trudge up a country lane (must read the maps more carefully) I eventually found the stone circle at Castlerigg. Definitely worth the journey and the lowering afternoon sun had positioned itself in a good section of sky for the shot as some kind of reward.

Felt inspired to get my poets hat on and write a bit of verse too, LOL...

'At one with sky and land they sit,
A simple ring of abstract stones,
Huddled figures - young and old,
Holding fast before the wind,

Scorned by the bitter hail and rain,
Shown mercy in the dusting breeze,
Then bask once more in summer sun,
And wait in silence night and day - yet know their place on Castlerigg, '

Four differing exposures merged together in Photomatix. Uploaded a black and white version too, as if by moonlight...?

Ta for looking, better viewed larger,

Difficult to choose between these, they are so very different. V2 seems to me to convey the direct relationship between sun, stones and shadows better? Strange atmosphere, I'm not sure that I would want to be on my own there after dark. Those stones have a very strong presence.

like the comp and colours. i'd prefer abit more contrast, and definately think you could push the contrast alot harder in the mono version to give more punch.lesley

Excellent...It is hard to choose one as opposed to the other they have their own indviduality expressing a different feel and you have done that very very well great work !!

Your processing has created an almost disturbing and eerie atmosphere in these shots, but quite in keeping with the subject. I can't decide whether I prefer the B and W to the colour image, so 1/2 vote for each.
