Cataract

By woolybill1
The burn at Cragside near Rothbury with two footbridges and Cragside Hall in the background.

Thanks for all responses to my decaying tree-trunk yesterday and to Alfie K for his valued award. Greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

No cataracts in your eyes, Bill, a well spotted composition and conversion.

If you'd said it was Austria I'd have believed you. Briefly.

makes me think of a privately owned mansion with lots of gardens around it and of course a small waterfall and a river to flow through it.

You think correctly, Robert. A vast house built in the late 19th century, ' a Northern Neuschwanstein', it was the first house in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity. The estate covers 6475Ha (16000 acres) and is celebrated for its prolific displays of rhododendrons.

The era of the rich landowners with vast estates. I assume there must be sweeping drives up the front door rather than the humble path! Nice sweep to the image, follow the stream and then path to the house.

Great mono Bill, lovely comp!
Even though I (generally) tend to associate landscape with colour, this image is marvellous even in monochrome. Iit actually adds a mysterious touch. Lovely countryside you have there. I am a bit envious Wink..
