Cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux - the altar

By annettep38
Another one from our recent visit to civilization. The cathedral is part of the 71 historic monuments on the Unesco list of buildings on the Camino de Santiago - the pilgrim's road to Santiago de Compostela.
Here Alienor of Aquitaine was married in 1137.

I have uploaded a more gothic conversion and also the original colour version!

many thanks for your comments and votes on the nuthatch and special thanks from Annette to Annette for the UA

Difficult to choose between the three, but I think the Gothic conversion (V2) has the edge for me.

Either way, a beautiful cathedral well captured, Annette.

This is the corner of France that I don't know...
I like the description of V2 as more Gothic, and I'll go with that version. It has a cool, graphic precision, and more importantly for me it gives a greater sense of depth, I can walk through those arches.
V3 is lovely too.

Three fine versions, Annette. v3 has a lovely quality to the colour and light, but v2 wins it for the stark grandeur. A lovely depth from your pov and lens as well.

I love to see the fantastic work of the old time craftsmen and I find myself in awe of the everlasting beauty that they manage to produce with the simplistic tools in their hands. Three stunning images Annette. I find V3 particularly appealing.GrinGrin

The composition and fine details in these are superb. I think it's V3 for me tonight with V1 just behind. A truly magnificent ancient building.

Very skilful capture of the nave and altar, Annette, not an easy subject to expose for: V 3, the coloured version, is just ahead of the other versions for me.

Each one conveys a different mood, and they are all magnificent.
I just watched a tv special on the French cathedrals, and how the pointed arches allowed the windows to be so tall and numerous. Very interesting architectural theories of how they were built.
Lucky you to be able to see this in person.

Beautifully captured, Annette, with excellent symmetry and control of light. I'm usually in the minority when I choose a colour version, but not in this case, so it seems from the above comments. V2 is my second choice, great atmosphere there.

Tremendous perspective and architectural detail Annette, you've captured the interior of this magnificent building in all its splendour. The colour version is the stand out shot for me
