Cathedral cavern

By Bigpoolman
An amazing cave in Little Langdale hewn by the slaters from bygone times. Colours were incredible and hopefully done justice to by the photo.

15 second exposure to get some light on the scene, amazing what the sensor can pick up in that time.

Comments appreciated as always.

It may not be possible, for various reasons, but I want a little more space: the edges of the dark shadows behind hte pillar, a fraction more foreground, and maybe a tiny rotation clockwise. Hard to tell, but the puddle looks wrong, somehow.

The colours are indeed lovely, but don't let one aspect of a picture blind you to other considerations.

Ignoring lack of editing other than 10 secs of tweaks in LR, was this the sort of perspective you meant John?

Yes, the original has a lot more going for it. What a terrific place too.

Cropping less and leaving in the reflection can work well, - mod uploaded.

For me, a record of rather specific interest. No problem with quality but not terribly interesting in general terms.

Very much the sort of thing, Tim.

I've doen a mod, rotating more than the reflections suggest, simply because it makes hte lines in the rock seem better, to my eye. The essence of this is the way the pillar supports the wall...

That bit of water makes so much difference, as does the reflection. It contrasts nicely with the hardness of the rock, and adds a softer element.
The rock formation, the hewing and the colours are all interesting, and I like to think the slaters left the diagonal support so that the cave didn't collapse?

Thanks all. I like the mods and as you say the water and reflections do balance the scene better. Fascinating place and the column is quite unusual.

Not sure how I would capture it to make it interesting, have you seen any such examples Paul?
