Cauliflower

By chase
Went shopping earlier today, the Caulis looked nice and fresh and at 49p I had to have one but, when I got it home I thought it deserved a little more attention.
A 3 frame HDR taken in daylight, combined in Lightroom and finished in Photoshop.
Converted in Nik Silver with a few tweaks Wink

The version has a drop more light to the left of the frame and a bit darker on the Cauliflower leaves.

I wanted the light to hit the Cauliflower with less on the old scales and the wooden base, I like dark, and I even added a bit of grain....oooerrr Wink
My mono skills are not tested enough so here's one Wink

Thanks for getting this far.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

A cauli that is waving , and it is a contortionist as it is scratching its chin too at the same side.😯
Are you having it with mash and gravy? Some nice sausage?
I hope you are not spoiling it by adding that yucky cheese sauce stuff TongueTongueTongue
The lead for me please, I like that you can see all the cauli Smile

I found this a bit dull and lacking in contrast, so I did a mod to try and rectify that. My taste, just a suggestion, I usually find B&W conversions need to have more contrast then colour to separate the tones. I hope you like it.

I love cauliflower cheese and included in a veggie pasta sauce.

A fab idea, Janet, and a super-excellent b&w treatment. I'm now imagining it with bacon and cheese - hot, of course - but that would ruin the picture!

I would think it may be worth removing the leaf on the left?

Aww Willie, I like the waving leaf, I did a couple without but I set it free Blush
Thanks for the mods, it does look better in the toned version without the waving arm though, I think straight forward mono with no wave looks a tad straight forward for me Wink

Lol, it is now Wink

Diane, I am going to draw a face on the Cauli, just so I can see where it is scratching Wink

James, that's a great mod, thank you and I like the tones too Smile

Bill, thank you so much for your UA, very complimentary for a B&W.

I never know where to stop with B&W conversions, one teeny step too far and the image is ruined. I must do more ....maybe....Blush

There will be another, perhaps, but not mono Sad

I like the lead best Janet and I like the the choice of subject. The light is perfect and the mono works well.

A lovely presentation, Janet, like the 'waving' leaf! 😁 Like both, but think the version just wins 👍🏻

Its a great image, but I find it rather macabre. For me, it is more than faintly reminiscent of a scene from a post mortem with the pathologist weighing the deceased brains on a pair of scales. I have never seen a cauliflower in that way before, but you seem to have caught the resemblance. The waving leaf is essential to dissipate my rather morbid view.

I'm always looking for images that show me the familiar in a new and unfamiliar way, so I absolutely have to give you an award for this.

Thanks all.
Helen and Peter, wonderful to have your UAs, thank you.

Peter, I never considered the possible macabre slide to this, thank you for airing your thoughts and I so see where your mind has led you.
