Cellarium

By ghibby
Fountains Abbey

Hi Guys! Itís been a long time since my last upload and Iíve not had nearly enough time for photography lately. Really looking forward to catching up with some folios over the next few days and whenever my boss is not near by!

This image was taken on the first weekend of Feb this year and shows the Cellarium at the beautiful Fountains Abbey. It was a relatively bright day and when the low sun poked out from the clouds it formed fantastic long shafts of light into the Cellarium. Exposure was very tricky indeed as the dynamic range was to much for recording in a single frame. I opted to go for an HDR image with -2, 0 and +2 EV bracketing and combining using Adobe CS2 and the local adaptation method.

I boosted the contrast using a curves adjustment layer and also added a subtle diffuse glow with a duplicate layer set to blend in Overlay mode and with blend options to restrict the layers effects to the mid tones and highlights within the image.

Iím a little disappointed with the slight softness to the extreme right of the frame, this was exaggerated during the conversion to HDR but I donít think it takes away enough to bin the shot.

Exposure 4.0, 1.0 and 1/4sec @ F8.0 and 14mm focal length.

Hope you enjoy this one and hope to uploading a lot more soon!

Cheers Pete. I've never shot this place on film and can imagine what a nightmare getting the right exposure is, bad enough with digital! Hope they look good.
