At Fountains Abbey. Not sure if the light leak adds anything or is distracting. All comments appreciated.

Commenting from the general gallery - not one of the critique team, so just a short comment from me. The shot is well composed, and the (general) light is lovely. As for the light leak I think as an architectural shot it probably distracts for me. On the other hand, as an atmospheric shot, it adds, as it brings in a kind of ethereal atmosphere to it - its otherworldly. Just needs a hooded figure or something!

As a lover of arches I do like this shot ,the only thing that lets it down for me is the light going just about all the way across the image ,it was probably unavoidable at the time of day it was shot ,maybe a little earlier or later in the day would have been better

Trying to remember the feel you get in here. I like what you have done with the image and the light leak just may need to be toned down a little, so it's not the main subject that draws the eye. .

These are not leaks, rather effects you have added. So its a matter of personal taste really.

It does add some mystery and mood, a little spooky perhaps.

12th Century ruin plus electronica.

Call me old fashioned, but No.

It's a location I know very well, and love, so maybe I'm biased.

Since you specifically asked, Alan, I have to say that I don't like the light effect.
I don't totally dislike the rest of your processing, except that you've lost a lot of contrast and impact.
I think the people should stay. They provide human interest and somewhere to settle the eye. For me, they bring the image alive.

A lassic image that I have seen many times in very similar productions. still well done other than the 'light leaks' which are really not a good idea at all? where have they come from ? have you added them? If so, why/

The general composition is pleasing, and i like the warm tones in your main image. I'm not fussed either way about the figures, they're small enough in frame for scale but not large enough that they distract from the arches as a subject. Both are valid images.

This looks like it wsa taken on a dull day, and to have shafts of light would be very attractive, but the light leak is an added effect (Nik filter?) and doesn't have that same appeal. Possibly, I think, because it's straight and not at an angle as a proper light shaft would be.
It could be considered spooky and in years gone by such an effect captured in camera on film may lead some people to believe it's evidence of a spirit (given the location).

If you want to go down the spooky route you need to have a good think about what light or glow you want to create an apparition. That could be effective.

I think that Steve, Alan and Robert each make good points.

Essentially, the 'light leak' effect is a distraction. But, if it was fainter, and perhaps the whole image darker and moodier, it could be very spooky.
