Celtic Cross 8th Century AD

By adagio
Many thanks for the votes & comments on my previous upload, with special thanks going Tom (Buffalo_Tom), Ian (iangilmour), Rich (woodini254), Bill (BillRookery) and Carol (canoncarol)for the User Awards (PMs sent) all are so very much appreciated.

Celtic Cross 8th Century AD situated in St Lawrence’s Churchyard, Eyam, Derbyshire. The cross is beautifully carved with intricate interlace patterns on the shaft, with scrollwork and foliage, and figures depicting Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Angels carved on panels on the shaft and cross-head. Digitally manipulated and worked to give the image a more atmospheric mood. The Version is just for fun with me going a bit crazy with some artwork…..but I rather liked the effect and it’s different!!

Have a good, safe day.

Very atmospheric processing, almost William Blake style! Such a history Eyam has in the plague, goodness, they had a hard time. But such credit to them with no computers, zoom, or mobiles.

Both images are excellent but the version is not only moody but dramatic as well as emphasizing the cross more so, Angela 😊

The first version is my favorite one but both are very good, I would also love to see it in mono I think it would look really good. Rich

That's an impressive looking cross. A fine composition and capture, Angela, and slightly biased towards the version which for me has a more spooky feel 😃👍

Twelve centuries old ? How intriguing . Amazing though it is not better protected....thank goodness it has survived in tact all these years . Perfect choice in processing ..with the etched appearance. Stellar work ,
Cheers Walt
