Another from my day out with AlleyCatz.
This is a Cep or Penny Bun which has densly packed tubes instead of gills. The young deeply convex caps are often wrinkled & narrower than the broad stem but expand to a large fleshy dome shape. The very swollen pale brown stem is overlain by a raised, white honeycomb network most obvious at the apex.
This variety is edible when young & the older ones dry well.....this one could have fed a whole Army !
The gold reflector was used on this one, held in place by my 'shrooming pal..Alison.It does so make a difference to the look of the 'shroom with that extra touch of light under the cap.Diffuser held above to avoid harsh light.

F8 manual mode
1/25th sec with tripod
ISO 200
F/L 105mm
W/B cloudy
Pattern metering.
Raw file converted in C1
Curves adjusted & border added in CS3

Thankyou for taking the time to look,I do hope you aren't getting fed up with these, there were so many varieties on offer in the woods,it was difficult not to take images Wink

Shows off most of the identifying features beautifully.
Not only is it edible, it's the best you can get. I love them when they are at this stage but have not found any yet this year.

Thanks all.

Ray..just a couple of blades of grass snipped away but the leaf was there so I left it this time.To be really clinical I suppose the couple of stray Moss strands could have hit the deck but I think too much gardening can look contrived & actually spoil the shot.

Hundreds Alan ?????? had lots to choose from today then Wink

Tried this yesterday Janet ... failed, BIG TIME too!!! I'll just stick to shooting large trains and things and leave this level of quality imagery to you, Alley and Wooly.

Classy as ever, an level to aspire to.

PS: I'll just have to be a social member of the D&D club for now, rather than an active participant ... I'll just put money over the bar for now Wink

With reflectors and diffusers etc it sounds rather as if an octopus would have been a handy companion Janet !!. A super shot however.
