Powerful stuff indeed - the words as well as the picture. Not for nothing can such a smile be described as "disarming". This image does not make comfortable viewing, and comfortable viewing tends to get attention and votes.
The principal face is haunting; handsome but not happy.
It has taken me a while to get into this series of photoreportage; it is very fine work - food for thought.

Agree on every point you make... you go to record what is there, what is happening... if the result isn't impressive photographically, so what?
This is truth well told... no more, no less.
