Barrie, thanks for your comment
I didnt ask for or try to get an EC i just wanted to have a try at the shot myself my way using my own technique just like Pete has tried doing the same shot, but most pictures have been done before how many picturs of the moon are in the gallery today, how many bee on thistle/flower , or butterfly pics sunflower pics i could do a long list of pics that have been done before... people just trying their own way of doing it the same shot.
I just wish i hadnt bothered now if i knew it was going to upset people :-(

Rob,
Ignore all the 'old miseries'.
It's a cracking pic.
You saw an idea and "Did it my way" Tra La Tra la!
Almost every image owes something to some one elses work, (we all stand on the tripods of giants to paraphrase Issaac Newton)
It's just unfortunate that your pic followed on so close to Matthew's, as otherwise it may not have been commented on so unfavourably.

Rob I must admit this is a cracking image. To my mind it shows a process of thought in how to improve on an existing concept. And this has been achieved. As already said It is not a copy but a variation on a theme. The fact that you have pulled it off should be an inspiration and not an 'oh it's been done before' comment. Most things in art have been done before you only have to look at the Pop Charts to see that, with it's samples of this record or that record making the charts.
My order of rankings for what they are worth would be Yours, Matts then Petes. (Soz Pete you just did not catch it like the other two).
So if you see something else you want to have a go at improving then do it. If this image is anything to go by then it should be worth a go.

Message for Macroman.
Not so much of the old miseries if you don't mind. I have an opinion that I am entitled to express as often and as freely as I see fit. Other people comment on my work and Rob has asked for comments on his and I gave it. I was one of the first to say what an excellent piece of work this was. My criticism was on the way the EC's are awarded not on the work itself which is remarkable (do I have to comment on it again to make sure people actually read what I say instead of just what they think I say or what they would like to believe I have said).

"Excellent image. Not sure that it should have got an EC though as it's a 'copy' of work done elsewhere on this site very recently"
I read your comment and thought it was bit unfair, at the very least it's a bit of a backhanded compliment.
My point was that nearly all work is derivative to some extent.
OK. so you're not an old misery and are entitled to your view, but equally I am entitled to disagree with you. ;o)
Seconds out! BOING, Next round.

Hi Rob,
Came to your page via Laurab's mushroom!
Glad to see so many 602z camera users on this great site - excellent camera, eh what?
Only just came to this site recently but I am now trying to make up for lost time.
Some great macro grapic pictures on your site. Well worth publication in my opion - have you ever thought about or sent any to some of the (especially digital) photography magazines?
Keep it up.
Terry

Hi again Rob,
I hope you are not fishing for more compliments
I know what you mean though about feeling confident. I'm getting ready to go into the big bad world of being a pro next year and only just feel confident enough now that I have a selection of images worthwhile to submit and (hopefully) grace a magazines pages.
Presuming you are a UK resident looking at your pics...?
Whether you are or not, all the main mags and others are always looking for pics and submissions, with each issue giving details for submissions and paying about 50 upwards. One tip I've been told, is maybe to try submitting to some of the mags that don't have such a big circulation. This is because less people send to them than the bigger boys, so you are in with a better chance of getting into print first time.
Good luck!

My my !! I came via Lucie so I could see what camera she used
) And I see all THIS LOL . A great camera I still use my S602 pro which is basically the same cept for a few bits and pieces. Only recently got my Sony F717 because my daughter Patricia (Paddy ... night nurse) came to stay and I was hooked. This is a great image . One I may well copy
) It is very beautifully executed and I haven't seen the other one in question .
