Chickadee 1

By Sararose
6 inches of snow in Vermont? I think yes.

Went to a funeral across the country (4 horrible plane flights... [I hate riding planes]), from Washington to Vermont. So not the happiest visit, but we tried to make the best of it. Washington got a little snow today, but Vermont got a lot. If you don't know me that well, I'm a "snow-maniac." Smile Washington almost never gets snow, and when we do, it's only a centimeter or so, and it melts within the hour. I guess that's why I love snow so much.

There were chickadees and blue jays constantly fluttering around the bird feeder that my relative had up, and they didn't seem to mind when I got within a few meters' length of them. I could only stay out for a little bit at a time, though, because it was -4 degrees farenheit and being a Pacific Ocean person, I wasn't acclamated (SP?) to the cold weather. So I got this shot of a chickadee. I already cropped a lot of the photo out, but I like keeping part of the branches because it shows the depth of field... please leave your thoughts about this.

Nothing will make up for my lost cousin, but taking photos in the snow eased my mind a little.

What a wonderful shot - it's a gorgeous little bird. I really like the fact you've managed to capture a catch light in the eye. I agree with you, about keeping some of the twigs in, but I may have just run the 'blur' tool over the top right one (being sharp I find my eye keeps straying to it).

Personally, I detest snow! We haven't had any yet this winter (south west UK), we've only just got a little ice on the pond this morning!

Its a beautifully sharp shot, with that terrific catch-light in the eye. The Chickadee is called a Coal Tit on the other side of the Atlantic. Lots of them around here in Toronto, and they will feed from your hand if you have patience.

The bird can benefit with a lift in shadow detail.

The format can also look better if the height is increased, - into a 10 X 8 format, which Ive done in the mod. You can do this by adding canvas at the top. I used CS5's ability to perform content aware scaling, so its easier than having to clone in the background, - but its still doable. I also removed that horizontal branch at the top right.

Very good shot, hope you like the mod,
