Chiesa dei Santi Gervaso e Protaso

By TrevBatWCC
Continuing up the cobbled Via Monte Grappa shown in my previous upload, and the steps alongside, you reach the Chiesa dei Santi Gervaso e Protaso, which stands in the 16th century Piazza della Chiesa in the historic centre of Baveno. It was consecrated on 13 May 1343, but is documented as a pieve (a rural church with a baptistry) as far back as the 10th and 11th centuries.
The lead is looking back across the Piazza towards the front of the church, with the Baptistry to the left. V1 is of the church's interior, with V2 the interior of the Baptistry. Looking across the Piazza (V3) from the front of the Baptistry are these Cloisters to the right, featuring the 'Stations of the Cross' colonnade lined with frescoes (V4, V5 & V6).

Many thanks to Jan (newbe2) and Dave (HobbitDave) for their User Awards on my previous upload, Around Baveno , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 👍

All very typical Italian, Trev. They do like a bit of grandeur, especially on the inside.

The exterior of this church is interesting but the interiors are so unexpectedly fabulous, and so beautiful.
A fine set of this lovely building and accompanied by such an informative narrative.
