Chimps & Gibbon

By crookymonsta
You may be wondering why I have put images of Chimpanzees and a Gibbon together.

Chimps are supposed to be the animal most closely related to us humans, but a recent experience with a White Cheeked Gibbon at the Night Safari Wildlife Park in Thailand gave Martin and I food for thought on this subject.

The gibbon was living in solitude on an island. We stood watching it and it walked (upright) across the 'beach', picked some leaves and threw them towards us. They landed in the water about half-way across. It then walked further along and picked up a sweet corn cob, came back so that it was standing the shortest distance from us and threw the cob - which landed on the handrail directly in front of Martin, then tried to catch it when he threw it back. Have to say it had a far better aim than Martin!

This really made us think, given the complex thought processes required for these actions.

Thanks for all the C&C's on Umbrella Factory yesterday - much appreciated.

Regards, Sandra
