Christmas colours - Male G.S. Woodpecker

By HobbitDave
Male GSW this morning, not impressed with the amount of liquid sunshine falling around him. Much low grey cloud.

Taken through glass, 'cleaned up' in PhotoPal and uploaded from iPad.

ISO 800, 400mm, f4.5, 1/100th sec, Ev -2/3. (Exif doesn't get added if you upload from iPad).

Thanks Barbs, when the coast is clear he loves his food, but he is very wary, too.

Hiya Lynne, thanks very much for the kind comment. Wishing you and yours a lovely Christmas and all good things for the New Year. Your boat reflections photo set I've revisited several times, such a well-taken and ingenious series. Tops for me!

Good job.

Thanks kindly Peter, very low light and a bit of reflection from the window, but to quote a friend above, it's pisitively possing down so for low light it was better than I had expected Wink
All the best,

Wonderful closeup, Dave. I just noticed how different his feathers are from other birds - looser, not as neat looking. Or maybe it is because he is larger and they just seem that way.

Lovely photo Dave I saw one yesterday on my way to Watchet along the mineral line but it got scared off by the dog walkers.

i think at this time of year there are minimal leaves on the trees, Christina, and as they mostly find insects from under the bark, when it rains as much as it has here they can look a bit dishevelled - sometimes the white chest is pale brown if the weather is really bad ;(
Beautiful birds, though.

He is so handsome Dave. A lovely shot. Behind glass is definitely best in this weather or borrow Peter's armchair hide! Cathy

Thanks so much, Jenny, unfortunately no Christmas hat like your GSW but I think this one keeps his for when it's not raining! Wink
