Church and volcano

By JuanCarlos
Church of San Juan del Obispo. It was built in the early years of the Spanish colony in Guatemala. In the background you can see the Hunahpu volcano o Agua volcano.

Hi again, good to see you back.

The site isn't picking up your Exif, I'm guessing that you used Save for web, which strips the data from the file. Could you let us know your camera settings please?

My main thought on opening this is that I like the potential for tension between symmetry and asymmetry here but I would prefer to see more space on the right for that to work. Allow symmetry in the white-painted masonry, balanced by asymmetry in the off-centre mountain, and the contrast between buildings on th left, vegetation on the right. Here's there's too little on the right to create a proper full stop. Does that make sense?

I think I'd like a wider view, too, including the bottom of the steps.

Also, I wonder if it would be possible to shoot at a differet time of day, with sunlight on the front of the building?

These things are hard to arrange as part of a tourist visit, but make the difference between a snap and a seriously good picture: light is (almost) everything.

A perfectly good pictorial record. I did not particularly recognise the building as a church until I read your comment as the composition takes the eye straight past it to the mountain - which it does very well.
