Now this is my sort of sports photography! Wink Seriously, it's bursting with human story. What is he thinking? Well I suspect it's on the lines of the old saying 'It's not falling that's dangerous. It's landing...'

The composition / crop is excellent, he's framed bu a lot of verticals with that curious twisted tree on the left to hold it all together, and he has space to move into. Which he is going to need...

Timing was perfect, focus is pretty good. The shutter speed - well I would feel a lot safer with 1/500 second or faster but you got away with it.

I think you've done a certain amount of lightening, the result is slightly flat. I want to add contrast, beef up the shadows a bit, burn in some texture in the soil. I might try a slightly tighter crop, but keeping much the same balance within the frame. Modification(s) to follow...

"Where's reverse on this thing?"
Really good action shot - the expression is great
I rotated the image clockwise slightly. cooled the colour and increased the contrast on the face. I then cropped to get a nice diagonal coming out of the bottom left hand corner and to focus more on the biker - this has placed him more central rather than on a third, but he is the main interest so I would think that is OK.
Just an alternative to a fine shot

I think he might be quoting the wizard Rincewind...

But I can't repeat that here. Or even 'Don't panic, Captain Mainwaring!'

''is the bike seat gel cushioned?''

All eyes on the face please!
I cropped the picture from the bottom, keeping his landing area as an unknown surprise...that landing must have caused some serious pain, ouch!

great photo

You have done really well here, Mickael, good action captured, nice composition and lots of space for the biker to "fall" into. His expression and the height of his jump keep the viewer's attention, both are very good. Lots of humour here. Your timing is excellent.

The framing by the trees is well thought out.
Not sure I like the out of focus foliage top right, it's a bit of a distraction. It can either be cropped or cloned out. The foliage top left looks okay, but the foliage on the right is closer to you. Both act well as "framing", though.

From the modifications you will see that there are several cropping possibilities here. I wouldn't want to take away any of the foreground, that's important, but removing some from the right is appropriate.

Well, we have to ask ourselves, after we take the picture in some cases, before taking the picture in most cases, what will be its use or essence.

Covering an action event, the mind first goes into finding the location where you could take good pictures safely.

Once we have the pictures, we can wonder what is their essence. This specific one, is an action shot that is packed with fun. From the comments I can gather most all of us interpreted his facial expression with fun. In trail events with motorcycles you can't see the racer's faces, they wear masks. In Rallye events, even worse, they are behind glass, but in both cases you think well, they have a proper seat and enough suspension to absorb the impact, lol. This fella here, well... I really hope he has some sort of suspension and cushioning when he lands. Where he lands to me, is meaningless, it would be a stream or soil, but if you are to categorise this picture as ''fun''... (and not as ''reportage'') you limit the foreground and let people wonder....

No, I would not put a crocodile with a mouth open in the bottom part Smile

Ooooops I forgot to ask, did you manage to get the pic when he had touched down? It's the moment after the climax as they call it in the theatre terms, the ''lytrosis'' (redemption). I'd love to see it!

Brilliant. The expression is quite superb. It is a touch soft and, ideally, the face should be crisp. However, not going to be easy but the full sized imagemay be a touch soft round the face?
