*Clifford's Tower, York

By Rock
Much of York's layout is the result of Roman and Viking constructions but one iconic feature is Norman.

Between 1190,and 1194 it was repaired with a timber structure at the top was built by William the Conqueror in 1068 as a statement of his power over the region.
this building stood for just over a century before being burnt down in one of York's tragic moments, when in 1190 150 were massacred on this site.

Normally at this time of year the steep banks are covered in daffodils but the coldest winter on record has certainly affected the grown of the Daffodil display.

Much more history on Clifford's Tower can be found on the web.

Please excuse my problem encountered when attempting to download variations as the site told me I could only enter one shot a day.

Hey-ho, I hope you enjoy the shots of Clifford's Tower (York Castle).

have the best daff display in the garden that we have had for years rock but all others in the street are struggling with most being blind.

Like V3 with the people in shot as it adds scale

I knew you wouldn't disappoint me, Rock GrinGrin but what a surprise at the lack of yellow. I have a patch of daffs on my allotment but there have been fewer flowers each year.... down from 3 figures to only a dozen or so now! Sad

Perfect POV, perfect sky and a great description. I don't like the banding in the sky in V3 though.
