Caterpillar of The Cinnabar Moth, Sefton, Merseyside.

2019 seems to have been a bumper year for these in West Lancashire.
(The creature hiding round the other side is a Common Red Soldier Beetle.)

Super shot Malcolm. My favourite caterpillar because it gets rid of Ragwort which is a nightmare for horse owners. If I see Ragwort with these caterpillars on I always leave a clump for them and destroy it when they have gone. Cathy

Very good image Malcolm. When these appear cuckoos will not be far away. It is one of their favourite tipples!! Usually July/August time - they charge their energy levels up on them before the long flight home for the winter.
