Continuing my abstract series.

Iím sure a lot of you guessed what this is.
Itís a close-up of the beautiful scales of a closed pine cone.

The main function of a pine cone is to keep a pine treeís seeds safe. They close their scales to protect the seeds from cold temperatures, wind and even animals that might try to eat them. They open up and release their seeds when it is warm and it is easier for the seed to germinate.

I appreciate the interest and response to my previous shot of the canal narrowboat.

Pamela.

Easier to identify in the thumbnail, but full size could be rocks, etc.

I do not think I would have recognized them, without the into' notes, Pamela. Your notes are quite interesting, as it explains a lot about their life cycle. Beautiful details in your close-up.

I didn't guess but have been fascinated recently by the bark of some of the very old trees in the park opposite. Lovely shot.

Super abstract from nature Pamela. Great texture and colour, which latter is enriched against a black ground.

I did get the pine cone, Pamela. And sometimes, it needs a forest fire to release the seed.

Peter is right , the Jack pine and lodge pole pine both need a forest fire to release their seeds from that protective layer . Great idea for macro and fascinating discussion.

I thought it looked like loaves of bread! In any case, a finely textured image that is smack in the middle of your personal photographic "style". Enjoyed it!
