Cloth Shoes

By helenlinda
It’s said the sole of cloth shoes has a thousand layers, but there are actually only about five layers. The term, “sole of one thousand layers” is exaggerated to describe the sole’s many layers and the complicated manufacturing process. Chinese cloth shoes have a history of more than 3,000 years. In Houma Shi city, Shannxi province, when a warrior from the West Zhou Dynasty (11th century BC-771 BC) was unearthed, it was discovered he wore cloth shoes; the earliest known handicraft cloth shoes.
Last night a friend from Shannxi Province showed us these lovely pig faced shoes from his home town. They also make tiger faced shoes, but it is usually the boys who wear them.
Thank you for looking and many thanks to Johanna for her User Award yesterday

I like these. I've spent this afternoon photographing shoes, none of them as pretty as these.

Delightful shoes whatever the number of layers.
Makes me think of Gladys Alyward and the film' Inn of the Sixth Happiness'
and the feet binding in China.
I wonder if the thousand layers referred to our soul?
