Cracking alert pose, good plumage detail and lovely background tones, Keith. Hope you don't mind but I have uploaded a mod just to try and clear that bit of bg noise.

Thanks everyone...and especially to Sylvia for taking the time to do the great mod.It has lifted the pic brilliantly.I did a NR on it but it did not do much so did not put that one up.The problem was that I think the focus hit the wing - not the eye.
This is why I always tick for Mods as I can hopefully learn something....cheers.

So glad you like the mod, Keith - I always hesitate to critique or submit mods as some folk get unhappy about it Sad Below is a tip I picked up a while ago regarding the detail in birds' eyes and have found it amazing. Hope it will be useful to you and others Smile I use Levels in CS5 on the selected eyes.

From Ephotozine Guide to Great Photography, by Peter Bargh

Greg Lazzaro’s editing tip:-

Most folks do not realise how much more detail there is in the eyes of birds when editing and that is because at a glance there appears to be nothing. Reflections, detail and colour can be brought forth with little effort. Select the eyes and then in whatever editing programme you use, reduce shadows between 10 – 50% and a whole new window of detail will be made available

Thanks again Sylvia.......yes I like it when people get upset......lol
I always ask for mods for the simple reason that I can find out fantastic things like you have shown me.
